[CELLARSCAPE is...]
Paul Terry – vocals, guitars, drums, samples, random stuff
The universal musical dictionary would contain an entry along the lines of:
'cellarscape' (sell-er-skaype)
1. Picture a landscape, then a seascape. Now imagine a cellarscape: an intimate, subterranean place. A place of comfort. Somewhere shadowy and secret, but also a haven of safety and hope.
2. Emotionally-charged vocals and biting acoustic guitars latch onto haunting samples, ominous cellos, and at times, unforgiving and frenetic percussion.
[THE DEBUT EP...]
July 24, 2006 saw the release of the first Cellarscape EP entitled 'Copilot'. It features five songs including the dark and haunting 'Repeat, Erase, Unite', the fragile 'Wearing Masks' and the anthemic live favorite 'Static'. An intimate, evocative, and personal tapestry. (Full tracklisting: 1. Pulse 2. Static 3. Repeat, Erase, Unite 4. In Your Own Way 5. Wearing Masks)
[PRAISE FOR 'COPILOT':]
"Songs of desolation that echo with mood and meaning." – Barry Jones (C.Times)
"A shifting tapestry of moods and images, tracks range from the radio-ready 'Static' to the subdued shimmer of quiet gem 'Wearing Masks'. 'Repeat, Erase, Unite' is a highlight, with its foreboding guitar and awesome vocal crescendo; 'In Your Own Way' has a pleasingly road movie feel. The lyrical stand-out is 'Pulse', but you’ll have to head to iTunes if you want to discover the lovely wordplay therein. With an album due in January, Cellarscape is making an ambitious bid for the hearts and minds of alt/acoustic/emo fans everywhere. On this evidence, even if you’re not already a diehard, you should prepare to be turned into a web-scribbling fanatic pretty much overnight." – M. Hockley (CY)
"'Copilot' features a fine collection of songs that really grow on you after a couple of listens through. The kind of thing you expect to hear in the background of a top-quality indie movie like Garden State or Donnie Darko. Recommended."
– Meejaboy
"Emotionally-charged acoustic guitars swirl around soaring vocals... Includes the live favorite 'Static' and the dark and haunting 'Repeat, Erase, Unite'. Expect a tingle down the back of your neck."
– CD Baby
[PHOENIX RISING...]
The follow-up EP, 'Fifth Phoenix', (Feb 5, 2007), showcases another five different shades of the Cellarscape sound, including the schizophrenic 'A Brief Time of Bullets' and the hypnotic trip of 'Transition Sickness'. Plus, the cathartic bite of 'Lack of Evidence' and the lilting 'Kerosene', expect unexpected storms and explosions of hope. (Full tracklisting: 1. A Brief Time of Bullets 2. Kerosene 3. Transition Sickness 4. Lack of Evidence 5. Curse Included)
[PRAISE FOR 'FIFTH PHOENIX':]
"From the yearning harmonies of 'Kerosene', and the doomy, cascading rhythms of 'Transition Sickness', this is far from formulaic… muted guitars, beautifully understated multi-layered vocals, everything in this five-track EP breathes an intimacy that is all too rare in new music…" – Control Yourself
"Cellarscape has progressed by an impressive scale. The original, softer acoustic stylings [from the debut 'Copilot' EP] have been replaced by symphonies of strings and innovative drum loops... Truly a force to be reckoned with..." – Rockworld TV (Sky Channel 368)
"'Fifth Phoenix' by Cellarscape features five intense songs opening with the stunning 'A Brief Time of Bullets' before prowling into the haunting 'Kerosene' and 'Transition Sickness'. 'Lack of Evidence' bristles before the acoustic epic 'Curse Included' brings to an end an emotionally-charged set." – County Times
[THE FORTHCOMING NEW SINGLE & ALBUM...]
